There
are basically two forms of planning/building consent
in France - the Permis de
Construire and the Déclaration
de Travaux.
If approached correctly, the French Authorities are
generally sympathetic to most restoration projects
- but the application forms are complicated, and significant
delays and other problems can arise if the forms are
incorrectly completed or are filed with inadequate
information. We can also provide all appropriate drawings
and supporting information for these applications.
The
demolition of existing buildings requires a
Permis de Démolir for which a
separate, additional application must be made.

For
property in rural areas you are also likely to need permission
for a private drainage system (fosse toutes eaux)
for which new rules and regulations were introduced in
1998. These new regulations have effectively put a miniature
"time-bomb" under 25% of the French population
- all those living in rural areas where mains drainage
is not available. After 1 January 2006, a new Inspectorate
will start checking whether 4 million existing fosses
septiques comply with the new regulations. The vast
majority (which do not comply) will have to be replaced
with the type of system shown here.
